Now Accepting Submissions for the July 2017 Edition until June 13, 2017!
We are a new literary arts website that focuses on poetry, prose, art, plays, and essays. Please send all submissions to email@example.com.
WORK THAT DOES NOT FOLLOW GUIDELINES WILL NO LONGER BE READ.
Submission Guidelines—Please follow these to the letter!
One artist may submit up to:
-3 pieces of flash fiction (1,500 words each or shorter)
-2 pieces of short fan-fiction (3,000 words each or shorter)
-2 interviews or reviews
-2 song lyrics
-1 short essay/memoir piece
-and/or 20 pieces of artwork during one reading period
Note About Fan-Fiction Submissions: The March 2017 issue is the first issue that we will start accepting fan-fiction. In order for your piece to be accepted, it must be a complete story, and ideally would make sense to those who aren't familiar with the show/movie/book series you are basing your piece on.
We believe that writing fan-fiction is a great tool to practice your writing & storytelling skills. It's also a way for writers to give back to a series/show/story that has meant so much to them.
The Basil O' Flaherty is accepting all kinds of work, from traditional to experimental, political to horror, shocking to touching..
What to Include in Submissions:
Please include all submissions in the body of the email, or attached as a Word document. Scripts may be submitted as a PDF. DO NOT double-space your work (unless that is your artistic choice)! Title your email with Genre, Name, Date (such as Poetry, Andrew Hirsch, 09/05/2016). If you are submitting in more than one genre please submit ONE email, with all the genres listed in the title.
A short, third-person bio MUST be included with each submission.
Previously published work will be considered, but we must know when and where the piece was published, and if the piece has been revised. The Basil O' Flaherty requests First Rights for previously unpublished pieces and Reprint Rights for previously published work. We request the right to keep your work on our website forever as an archived work, and to use your work in any social media or marketing material. Rights revert back to the artist once their work is published.
Thank you for your interest in The Basil O' Flaherty and we look forward to receiving your submissions!
